One of the tips we can give you is to leave the touris area of Kuta, Legian and Seminyak and stay a few days on the northern side of the Island. The area around Bedugul is refreshingly cool and hotel and villas tent to be a lot cheaper in that area. You can rent a small villa for as low as Rp. 200.000 per night in Bedugul. Another cheap favorite in northern Bali is the area around Singaraja. Singaraja itself is historically very important for Bali because it used to be a Dutch harbor. Not to far from Singaraja is the small village of Lovina. Well known for its black beaches and frequent dolphin spotting. From here you can do some interesting day trips into the mountains of northern Bali. You could easily spend several weeks exploring jungle, waterfall or just hang out on the beach.
